Course descriptions

Hatha yoga

Yoga and Emotions uses a holistic approach to raise emotional awareness and to improve emotional management through the practice of yoga. Based on the ancient traditional Hatha yoga style originated in India, each class sets specific goals aimed to connect and balance your body and mind through the practice of asanas (yoga poses) and pranayamas (breathing techniques). The classes are slow paced and are constructed to improve: mind-body relationship and emotional wellbeing, the physical body such as posture, flexibility, balance and coordination.

Helping children with loss: The grief recovery method

This six-week programme is for parents and carers and will help you communicate with children in your care about losses they have experienced and those they might face in the future.

As a parent or a significant person in a child’s life you may be familiar with the feeling of not knowing what to say when questions are asked about sad and painful feelings. This could leave you struggling for the right words or actions to take. Whether your child is experiencing a bereavement, or other significant emotional loss - following divorce, house move, changing school, or being bullied - the Grief Recovery method will give you the tools to make a significant difference in their progress and well-being. The programme covers trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The programme is led by a certified grief recovery specialist, using techniques from the book When Children Grieve.

Stay and play

An opportunity for parents and carers to play with their children in a safe stimulating environment. You must stay on site with your children at all times.

Creche

You can leave your children in the expert care of our qualified childcare team. Places are limited and must be booked in advance (priority given to parents attending appointments or workshops). You will need to complete a creche booking form to register your child and will need to arrive at least 15 minutes before to allow time to settle your child.

Flourish: Arts and wellbeing taster workshops for parents

This is an extension to Flourish, a free arts programme running from Maxilla during the school holidays for families affected by Grenfell. ACAVA are holding three taster arts and wellbeing workshops for parents accessing services at the Curve over November and December.
